Season 2 went about tying up all the series’ loose ends, leaving the viewer wondering what would happen next for the Locke brothers of Keyhouse. After dealing with the murderous Dodge and bringing their troubled Uncle Duncan into the fold – with mother Nina likely to join – Season 2 went about tying up all the series’ loose ends, leaving the viewer wondering what would happen next for the Locke brothers of Keyhouse.

Gabe/Dodge

Locke And Key Season 2

Tyler Locke, bereft of his fiancée’s life after the Alpha Key fails to save her, decides to assassinate Gabe/Dodge.

With the exception of Kinsey, with whom Gabe’s version of Dodge has developed an obsession, Gabe intends to send his demons over to Keyhouse to murder Nina Locke (and any other Lockes they can get their hands on). Gabe wants her to be able to freely join his army.

The Locke siblings and Uncle Duncan aren’t about to sit around waiting to be attacked again, so they attack Gabe’s cliff-edge villa, where Kinsey acts as a distraction by pretending to jump off the cliff with the Angel Key while Duncan, Tyler, and Scot try to break into the vault and steal the Demon Key.

Gabe/Dodge and the horde are far too powerful, but Duncan has an unexpected advantage: his blood is linked to the Demon Key, allowing him to command the horde.

The horde turns and attacks Dodge at Duncan’s command, seizing the Demon Key.

Tyler saves Kinsey by ostensibly killing her and resurrecting Lucas, who is still a teenager, by using the Alpha Key on Dodge. Kinsey receives all of Dodge’s collected keys, and the latter clarifies that he had no influence over Dodge’s actions.

Locke And Key Season 2

Meanwhile, Ellie returns home, disoriented, but still resembling Dodge, and she is on the lookout for Rufus, who has long since vanished.

She travels to Keyhouse by herself and convinces Bode that she is Ellie and not Dodge. After decades apart, Duncan, Lucas, and the Locke siblings return home and use the Identity Key to restore Ellie’s true appearance, allowing her and Lucas to reconcile. In the end, Rufus and Ellie are reunited.

Locke And Key Season 2

It appears that this is the case! The Echo demon appears to dissolve or transform into Whispering Iron after being torn from Lucas’ body.

Even so, it’s hard to say how much of the demon survived Gabe’s villa’s crash into the sea. The evil Dodge hasn’t been defeated, but with a new foe on the horizon for the Lockes in Season 3, that chapter may have come to a close.

Tyler

Locke And Key Season 2

The Lockes begin to look forward to summer vacation now that the majority of their major issues have been resolved.

Tyler plans a trip during his winter break and deletes the wonderful film he made with his deceased fiancée, knowing that his 18th birthday is approaching and that he will soon forget about Keyhouse’s enchantment.

Tyler appears to have decided that he does not want to remember the horrors he has witnessed, as he leaves his keys with Kinsey in his sadness. When danger strikes early in Season 3, Tyler may make a U-turn. Bode and Kinsey are skeptical.

Nina, Kinsey, and Bode

Locke And Key Season 2

While Kinsey and Scot prepare to say their goodbyes, Bode temporarily uses the Head Key on Nina. She is lost and unable to connect with her children due to her ongoing grief over her husband and her inability to remember the power of the keys.

The two infiltrate Nina’s mind, and she searches through her memories of Rendell, including the day she informed him of Bode’s pregnancy.

Nina expresses her desire not to forget the Head Key after she and Bode have finished it, and Bode hands her the Memory Key, promising that he will not let her forget. Nina appears to keep up with the chaos at Keyhouse in Season 3. Finally!

The Big Villain of Season 3

Locke And Key Season 2

The award-winning Locke & Key comic book series based on this series, created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodrguez before Season 2, largely established our Season 3 antagonist.

The Black Door, which is now known to be a deadly conduit to a demon realm that is opened by the Omega Key in the television series, was discovered by a troop of rebel soldiers during the War of Independence in 1775, according to the novels.

When demons attempting to flee this realm are unable to find a target, they manifest in our world as Whispering Iron. When an ancestor of the Locke family discovered this in the comics, he was shown the infinite possibilities of the iron when fashioned into various keys.

The Netflix series, on the other hand, tells a slightly different version of the story, featuring Captain Frederick Gideon Kevin Durand of The Strain and Swamp Thing, as our Season 3 Big Bad.

Locke And Key Season 2

Locke & Key transported us back to Keyhouse, Massachusetts, in 1775 in episode 8, ‘Irons in the Fire,’ much like the comics did. During the Revolutionary War, we met Locke’s ancestors, who worked with local Minutemen to manufacture and stockpile weapons against the British.

After being rumbled by a group of Redcoats led by Durand’s Gideon, a horrific struggle ensued, culminating in the assassination of patriarch Peter Locke by the cunning Gideon.

The Minutemen, led by Peter’s formerly shy son Benjamin Locke, pursued the Redcoats to a sea cave, where they attempted to hide. The Black Door had not yet blocked the cave’s deepest doorway, which Gideon and the Redcoats unlocked.

When one of Gideon’s men was struck by a demon and possessed, he was mesmerized, and in front of Benjamin, he voluntarily submitted to the demon’s possession.

Locke And Key Season 2

Gideon was hanged by the townspeople while in his demonic form, but he warned them that more demons would follow and tear the earth apart.

Meanwhile, Benjamin fashioned the Black Door and Omega Key out of Whispering Iron in order to turn evil against itself, only to discover that the alchemy required to complete the enchantment would necessitate the use of his blood. He then created more keys with Whispering Iron, which we are all familiar with today.

After learning much of this history from Nina’s teacher boyfriend, Josh Bennett, and failing to persuade him to help her, the demonic Eden infiltrates the Wellhouse and conjures a new Echo in Gideon. The Black Door appears to be possessed by a demon from her past in the dimension behind it.

Eden agrees to release him in exchange for him unlocking the door, but he betrays her and throws her down the well. Using the Anywhere Key, he then flees into the world.

The Lockes will have to deal with a new, cruel Echo when Season 3 premieres and Gideon will undoubtedly bring them all the misery they thought they’d left behind.
