Why Did She Win the Grammy Award for Song of the Year?
“Just Like That” won Grammy Song of the Year for Bonnie Raitt.
“This is really an amazing moment,” Raitt remarked in her speech. “Thank you for honouring me, the only academy that supported me and respects songwriting as I do. “The beautiful story of the love, grace, and charity of someone who offers their cherished organs to save another live inspired this song.”
She added: “The story was so basic and so wonderful for these times. I love John Prine and so do others, thus the song has resonated. This song’s composition was inspired by the inside story.
“Just Like That” won Best American Roots Song, and Raitt’s “Made Up My Mind” won Best Americana Performance earlier in the night.
“I don’t write a lot of songs but I’m so proud that you appreciate this one and what this means for me and for the rest of the songwriters, who I would not be up here tonight if it wasn’t for the art of the great soul digging, hard working people that put these songs and ideas to music,” Raitt continued. “Thanks to my crew for helping me release this record. Humbled. Thanks. Thanks.”

The artist self-produced the album with bassist James “Hutch” Hutchinson, drummer Ricky Fataar, keyboardist and backing vocalist Glenn Patscha, and guitarist Kenny Greenberg.
Raitt’s winning song faced Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5,” Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” Adele’s “Easy On Me,” Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” Gayle’s “Abcdefu,” DJ Khaled’s “God Did,” Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit,” and Lizzo’s “About Damn Time.”
Raitt praised her fans for their support and said the song was motivated by her longing for positive news.
“To be 73 and get a song of the year…when I’m barely a songwriter,” she remarked. “After 50 years, I love it. I’m lucky to continue do this for a living. I’m pinching.”
