Officers from the Salina Police Department questioned two teenagers in connection with a suspected BB gun firing in the city on March 15, and determined the offense “may be related with a TikTok challenge.” The TikTok “Orbeez Challenge” on social media, according to police, “involves gel or water beads shot from airsoft-type guns.”
“This challenge motivates people to use airsoft guns that discharge gel or water beads at pedestrians,” police said. This [TikTok] social media challenge appears to be a nationwide phenomenon, with accidents as a result.”
Two Salina teenagers, ages 18 and 17, have been referred to the Saline County Attorney’s Office and the Salina Municipal Prosecutor’s Office on charges of aggravated assault, battery, and unauthorized discharge of an air pistol inside the city limits, according to Salina police.
“In this instance, there is a third party involved.” “Once they’ve been identified, they’ll be interviewed and perhaps charged,” police added.
