The slayer of Peacocks Kevin Williamson, who penned the screenplay for Scream, returns to script a COVID-era slasher film with Sick, and the film’s conclusion successfully ties the film’s pandemic satire into its violent horror plot. Although everyone experienced the global COVID-19 epidemic at the same time, there have been surprisingly few significant films set during lockdowns or quarantines.
Perhaps this is because the event was too painful to be recreated in entertainment so soon after it occurred. Although a few high-budget films, such as Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, have included the pandemic in their plots, Hollywood does not appear keen to remind audiences of the global event.
However, co-creator of the Scream franchise Kevin Williamson’s horror film Sick is not only set during the epidemic but also focuses unapologetically on the COVID-19 virus. Or, the humorous, nasty slasher film written by the author focuses on people’s reactions to the outbreak.
As Scream 6 prepares to maybe reintroduce one of Williamson’s classic Scream antagonists, the screenwriter presents a more current analysis of slasher stories in Sick.
In Sick, Parker and Miri quarantine at Parker’s opulent, secluded lake property, where they are joined by Parker’s on-again, off-again companion DJ. DJ is shortly murdered by a masked assailant, and Parker and Miri struggle to survive as this assassin closes in, resulting in not one but two significant plot twists in the film’s conclusion.
What Happens At The End Of Sick?
Miri and Parker seek to conceal themselves in the lake house after DJ is murdered while resisting the killer. Miri falls from a window and breaks her leg during the ensuing struggle, causing her to fake dead when the murderer investigates outside. In a violent kitchen battle scenario, Parker murders their assailant.

As in Williamson’s Scream films, however, there are several killers in Sick, as another masked assailant arrives and weeps upon discovering the dead. Parker is chased across a lake, through her neighbor’s house, and onto an open road until an observer picks her up and the driver knocks her unconscious with a chloroform-soaked protective mask.
Who Were The Killers In Sick?
As Parker is returned to the lake house, her attackers’ identities are revealed. They are the parents of Benji, the “random person” Parker kissed at a party before the start of Sick’s story.
Benji’s mother notifies Parker that her son passed only a few days after the party because he got COVID-19 from Parker during their intimate encounter. Notably, Benji’s parents disregard the fact that he attended an End of the World Party, blaming solely Parker for his death despite his participation in developing the illness.
Similar to Williamson’s Scream protagonist Sidney Prescott, Parker divides the killers before Miri kills Benji’s mother. The trio impales Benji’s father after forcing him off a banister.
