With a net worth of $200 million, Irish boxer Conor McGregor is the richest athlete in the world.
Conor McGregor earned $100 million from his fight with Floyd Mayweather in August 2017, $50 million from his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018, and around $100 million pre-tax from the sale of his whiskey company Proper No. Twelve for an estimated $200 million in April 2021.

Childhood
When Conor Anthony was born in 1988, it was a momentous occasion. He joined a boxing club at the age of 12 and began training for the sport.
As a 17-year-old in 2006, Conor jumped right into his apprenticeship in the plumbing trade.
While working in this position, he met UFC fighter Tom Egan, who introduced him to the sport. Egan and McGregor began working out together soon after.
McGregor learned Brazilian jiu-jitsu from John Kavanagh, Ireland’s first black belt in martial art, and his staff at SBG Ireland.

Before going pro in mixed martial arts, he studied Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Capoeira, and Kickboxing.
UFC
Conor began training in amateur mixed martial arts a year later, at the age of 18. He defeated his opponent in the first round with a first-round TKO.
Just weeks before making his MMA debut, Conor was receiving welfare payments from the Irish government totaling $235 per week.
McGregor signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC in February 2013. Following in the footsteps of Tom Egan, the company’s second Irish welterweight competitor.

A TKO victory over Marcus Brimage in the first round marked Conor McGregor’s UFC debut on April 6, 2013. McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to be named Knockout of the Night after a victory.

Conor McGregor’s UFC 189 victory over Chad Mendes earned him $5 million on July 11, 2015. When Conor McGregor beat Jose Aldo in a UFC fight on December 11, 2015, the prize money was rumoured to be $12 million.
UFC 196 winner Conor McGregor walked away with a reported minimum of $10 million and a possible maximum of $15 million after defeating Nate Diaz on March 5, 2016. This fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 202 is said to have earned him $25 million.
It was estimated that he earned nearly $7 million from his bout with Eddie Alvarez in November 2016. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fight with Conor McGregor in October 2018 earned him an estimated $50 million.
As of this writing, the UFC has earned more than $115 million, which includes Khabib’s $50 million paydays.
Conor McGregor defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on January 18, 2020, in his long-awaited return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship. At the time, Conor was guaranteed $5 million for the fight, which was a UFC record.
The Cerrone fight could net him up to $80 million if pay-per-view sales are strong, he has said in interviews. Cerrone was paid $2 million for his appearance.

For some reason, on March 25, 2019, Conor McGregor announced on Twitter that he was retiring from mixed martial arts (MMA) in order to devote more time to his new ventures, including his whiskey brand, Proper 12. In order for him to enjoy a comfortable retirement, he’d need about $235 million in assets.
