In order to assist taxpayers, the Internal Revenue Service is opening a downtown Detroit taxpayer assistance office on Saturday.
For this one-of-a-kind occasion, no appointment is required.
Sat. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the IRS Detroit Taxpayer Assistance Center will be open for business. Near a QLINE streetcar route and East Congress Street is our office at 500 Woodward Avenue in the Ally Detroit Center.
If you have questions about refunds, transcripts, identity theft, the advance child tax credit, or anything else, feel free to stop by. No cash payments are accepted.
According to IRS Spokesperson Luis D. Garcia, “Taxpayers will receive in-person assistance from IRS employees that can help resolve their issue usually the same day.”
Garcia emphasized the importance of bringing the proper paperwork.
The IRS suggests that taxpayers bring the following items:
- A valid photo ID issued by the government is required.
- All members of the household must have either Social Security cards or Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs).
- All IRS correspondence and documentation that has been requested.
- An up-to-date mailing address.
- A way to contact you via email.
- Account information for direct deposit of payments or refunds.
Wearing face masks is a mandatory requirement, and social distancing protocols are in place.
