Willem and Eileen Swanepoel welcomed Candice into the world on October 20, 1988, in Mooi River, Natal, South Africa. They were Dutch immigrants who had settled in KwaZulu Natal, a coastal region. Her mother is from South Africa, while her father is originally from Mutare in Zimbabwe.
On a dairy and meat farm, Candice grew up alongside her brother Steven. In the nearby town of Hilton, she went to St. Anne’s Diocesan College for a boarding education.
She studied ballet as a child and believed she would one day work as a professional dancer. She even expressed a desire to enrol in a New York ballet school.
A modelling scout named Kevin Ellis spotted Candice at a flea market in Durban, a little harbour city in South Africa that is very well-liked by surfers. She had only turned 15 at the time.
