Is Boruto Stronger Than Kawaki? The Greatest Power Fight

In its first pages, Boruto establishes a rivalry between the title character, Boruto, and Kawaki, two sworn brothers who will eventually engage in a fatal battle. The best manga stories love rivalries.

The first few chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, however, demonstrate that the war has already been determined before it really takes place, even though this conflict has been building for years.

There is no denying that Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (Part I) got off to a spectacular start. Fans were treated to a devastating fight on the first page of the manga between Boruto, who they knew from his Naruto appearances, and another young person named Kawaki, who they would later discover is the former Kara member and Isshiki Otsutsuki’s vessel.

Although the brief vision of that future conflict doesn’t disclose much, the series laid the groundwork for the explanation of why Boruto and Kawaki—who were sworn brothers shortly after their first encounter—are destined to combat among the ruins of Konoha over the course of the following 79 chapters of Boruto.

However, it is evident that Kawaki would have no chance of winning if that battle were to take place now, given the three-year time gap between Part 1 and Two Blue Vortex.

Kawaki is Stuck, but Boruto is Stronger Than Ever

Is Boruto Stronger Than Kawaki

Chapter #3 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex makes it very evident that there is a significant distance between Boruto and Kawaki at the moment, despite all the emotion and build-up that has gone into creating the ideal rivalry duel.

The youthful Uzumaki is so sure of the strength he has gained over the last three years that he no longer considers Code, who was once an invincible foe, a threat. Boruto’s new Rasengan is an extremely strong jutsu that uses the chakra of the entire globe.

In the meantime, Kawaki appears to be set in his ways, depending so much on his physical augmentations and Karma that one of Code’s Claw Grimes nearly takes him out.

The most overt sign of Boruto’s enhanced strength, aside from his Rasengan, is his attitude. Despite being a few years younger than Kawaki, Boruto now appears to be the more mature of the two. When he returns to Konoha, he is entirely focused on his work and doesn’t even give himself time for an emotional reunion with Sarada, who at the end of Part I practically saved his life.

Boruto appears to have learnt a lot from his master over the last three years, and his attitude is extremely similar to Sasuke’s, particularly when he confronts and makes fun of Code. Boruto is undoubtedly demonstrating that he has the abilities and self-assurance to defeat a foe who was somewhat superior to him just three years ago.

Boruto’s Confidence Helps Him Surpass Kawaki in Strength and Growth

In contrast, Kawaki has not changed much. He still shouts at his teammates, charges into battle without thinking, and doesn’t seem to have changed much as a person. It should be kept in mind that Kawaki is not a true shinobi, even if he might have undoubtedly become stronger during the previous three years.

No one in Konoha (except from Amado, maybe) could teach him how to wield Karma more effectively, and given Kawaki’s cocky and conceited demeanor, it’s doubtful that he spent all this time studying ninjutsu with the top shinobi in the village.

While Boruto has obviously greatly increased his skill set by training with Sasuke and perhaps other masters, he is most likely still using his tried-and-true methods.

The only evidence required to distinguish the two is Boruto’s response upon seeing Kawaki: he maintains complete composure in the face of opponents and an exceedingly hazardous situation. There is only ruthless, pragmatic efficacy—no emotion, anxiety, or terror.

In other words, Boruto doesn’t appear to be at all alarmed or afraid of any threat that Kawaki or anybody else could pose to him. Because of his confidence and air of invincibility, Boruto has already defeated Kawaki, so unless Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manages to turn the tables and surprise its readers once more, their eagerly awaited battle is almost finished before it even starts.
