In the eighth season of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith, Derek Shepherd, Cristina Yang, Mark Sloan, Lexie Grey, and Arizona were en route to aid in the conjoined twins’ surgery at a Boise hospital when their plane crashed.
While Mark passed away from his wounds a few days later, Lexie perished moments after being crushed by a piece of the aircraft. Derek, Cristina, and Meredith were also hurt, but they all made a full recovery.
In the Grey’s Anatomy plane crash, Arizona did not die. But Callie had to amputate the limb after treating her wounds back in Seattle due to the crushing of her leg. Their relationship deteriorated as a result of Arizona blaming Callie for her amputation, and they eventually divorced due to other problems.
Although it wasn’t how she departed the show, unlike Lexie and Mark, the plane disaster was one of Arizona’s defining moments.
Arizona Reunited With Family In New York With Sofia
After Callie told Arizona that she wanted to relocate to New York with Penny and take Sofia with her, Arizona and Callie got into a custody dispute. Because Arizona didn’t want to be apart from her daughter, she hired an attorney, and they appeared in court.
Although Arizona was granted sole custody of Sofia, it was ultimately in everyone’s best interests to share Sofia with Callie.
After learning that Sofia was unhappy and missed her friends, school, and Callie, Arizona decided to move to New York so Sofia could be near her and Callie, which is how she left Grey’s Anatomy. Sofia later moved back to Seattle.
Behind the scenes, Arizona Robbins was not seen again in 2018 after Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew were sacked for “creative” reasons.
