The Harry Potter series has grown to be a mainstay during the comfortable fall months. People who don’t own the Harry Potter films on DVD or Blu-ray may be wondering where they can stream them now that summer is almost gone and Halloween is approaching.
Over the years, there have been a few streaming homes for the Harry Potter series. The franchise has never had a permanent home because the films alternate between Peacock and Max all the time. Max is currently streaming all eight of the Harry Potter films.
But if the history of repurposing the Harry Potter films is any indication, there’s a strong likelihood that this will alter.
What is the Reason of Peacock Removed Harry Potter?
The streaming providers have changed after NBCUniversal and WarnerMedia struck a deal in 2016 for the latter to acquire the commercial TV rights to all of the Harry Potter films. SYFY and USA Network are among the television networks that would air the Harry Potter films as part of this agreement.
This would explain why SYFY hosted a Harry Potter marathon over Labor Day Weekend in 2024, but Peacock only had the series for the month of August.
Since Harry Potter is a Warner Bros property, Max has repurchased the brand now that Labor Day has passed. Max offers all three of the Fantastic Beasts spinoff movies for streaming, in addition to Peacock. Because the Fantastic Beasts movies are simultaneously available on both streaming platforms, viewers might depend on the spinoffs to avoid switching between providers every few months.
Will Harry Potter Probably Return to Peacock in the Future?
It’s fair to assume that Harry Potter will be on Peacock once more in the future. Given that NBCUniversal’s agreement with WarnerMedia appears to be restricted to television distribution, Peacock is probably going to get the franchise in time for a future holiday. It’s likely that to commemorate the event, USA Network and SYFY will host Harry Potter marathons.
If it isn’t extended, the WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal agreement would formally expire in April 2025. Warner Bros. holds the rights to the Harry Potter films, so if the firms decide not to renew the agreement, they might remain on Max indefinitely. However, this is not a given.
Fans of Harry Potter can get enthusiastic about the reboot series that Max is producing in the meantime.
With a whole new cast, the series promises a larger Wizarding World expansion with additional sequences from the books. J.K. Rowling’s transphobic remarks from the past and present have entangled the series in controversy, but Succession’s Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod have been selected to script and direct, respectively.
Fans will have to guess when Harry Potter will be available for streaming on Peacock or Max till then.
