When Gypsy Rose Blanchard gives birth to her little girl, she will get her child tested for DNA.
On Monday, August 19, TMZ revealed that Blanchard, 32, finally made the decision to establish her daughter’s paternity after her birth because it is a less costly procedure.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, the cost of a paternity test before giving birth ranges from $400 to $2,000, while the cost of a test after the delivery is between $150 and $200.
Blanchard revealed her pregnancy and her first child with fiance Ken Urker in July. Shortly after Blanchard filed for divorce from her estranged spouse Ryan Anderson, the duo began dating. (The ex-couples got married in 2022 while Blanchard was incarcerated for conspiring with her former boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in 2015.)
Despite the unclear chronology, Gypsy Rose has been open about Urker being her child’s father.
“I left Ryan in mid-March,” she recalled in a July sitdown interview with ABC News. Thus, this is unquestionably and only Ken’s child. The issue of paternity was never raised.
A month later, Anderson, 38, revealed that he intended to obtain a paternity test in order to establish Gypsy Rose’s child’s fatherhood.
In an August TikTok live, he stated, “I am going to have to get a DNA test.” “Just because I have to and it’s Louisiana law.” Since we’re going through a divorce, things are how they are.
In accordance with Louisiana law, Anderson may be named as Gypsy Rose’s father if the child is born before their divorce is finalized. On the other hand, Anderson might certify the paternity of Urker via an affidavit if Urker desired to be named as the father on the birth certificate.
While acknowledging that he didn’t “have a choice” in the matter, Anderson also stated that he doesn’t think he is the father.
“I don’t think it’s mine, but I don’t know,” he thought, reflecting on how the timeline lined up. “That will be demonstrated by the DNA test. Even stranger things have occurred. Simply said, I’m not sure. I have ideas and opinions of my own.
While Gypsy Rose was incarcerated, she got to know Anderson and Urker. She first became engaged to Urker in 2018, but the couple soon called it quits. Gypsy Rose went on with Anderson in 2020 following their breakup.
Gypsy Rose swiftly moved on from Anderson after their breakup, but she revealed exclusively to Us Weekly that Urker had no influence on her decision to file for divorce.
In May, Gypsy Rose said, “It was, I think, an insecurity that was there for a very long time.” Two weeks before I got married, I gave Ken a call. I can never fully let rid of my feelings for Ken because of the way he has always been raised, but I set them aside in order to prioritize my marriage.
I didn’t leave Ryan for Ken, though it has been a recurring source of conflict throughout. That was simply a moment of realization—”Hey, we still love each other after all these years.”
