As Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) said, today will be great, especially for sci-fi fans. Yes, fans can enjoy the release of the latest Planet of the Apes movie on Hulu on August 2, which is the same day that Wes Ball’s hit summer movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Sources tell Deadline that the movie’s streaming launch comes just three months after it opened in theaters on May 10. Additionally, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is one of the early summer 2024 movies that did well.
Fans and reviewers both gave Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes about the same score. With an 80% score on the Tomatometer and a 77% public score on Rotten Tomatoes, Ball’s follow up to 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes is a hit.
Movie fans gave Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes a “B” grade. Even though it got average to slightly above average reviews, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes did pretty well at the box office.
According to Box Office Mojo, the new Planet of the Apes movie made $170.7 million in its first weekend, which was $58.4 million. With an extra $225.7 million made abroad, the movie made a total of $396.4 million around the world.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes did make money for 20th Century Studios, even though it only cost $160 million to make.
The Movie “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” Has Joined Other Movies on Hulu
After three months of dominating the box office, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be available on Hulu starting at the end of next week, along with Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), all directed by Andy Serkis.
There will definitely be more Planet of the Apes movies because the series was so successful. Kevin Durand is just hoping that Proximus Caesar’s death won’t stop the Kingdom’s bad guy from coming back someday. In a talk with The Hollywood Reporter, Durand said:
“Is Proximus the one who comes out of the water?” You didn’t see his dead body. There was a big splash. His body is so dense that I have to ask: did he make that huge, beautiful creature? I’m not sure… But I think there’s a chance [Proximus] will live in Apes.
