Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are reprising their legendary roles in Freaky Friday 2, which is presently in production. But Lohan and Curtis aren’t the only familiar celebrities making a comeback. Chad Michael Murray, Haley Hudson, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Lucille Soong, Rosalind Chao, and Mark Harmon are among the cast members who have confirmed their return.
Disney teased fans with the return of one fan favorite in particular, Chad Michael Murray, as part of the fledgling marketing campaign for Freaky Friday 2. Disney showcased Murray on Instagram, where he can be seen seated on a motorcycle while dressed in costume.
“Disney is back, baby,” read the caption for the picture. In 2025, the Freaky Friday sequel will open in theaters.”
If you’re not familiar with the 2003 version of Freaky Friday, Murray played Jake. To Curtis’s dismay, the teen idol of the 2000s played Lohan’s love interest—a youthful, kind boy who rides a motorcycle. But once Lohan and Curtis switch bodies, Jake starts to show interest in Curtis, which leads to mischief.
What’s the Story of Freaky Friday 2?
Nisha Ganatra, the director of Welcome to Chippendales, will helm Freaky Friday 2, despite Mark Waters having helmed the original movie. In unspecified roles, Manny Jacinto from The Acolyte, Julia Butters, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons will also be appearing in the sequel.
Twenty years after the events of the first movie, Lohan’s Anna is now a mother to a teenage girl and about to become a stepmother. As they negotiate the difficulties that come with merging families, Tess (Curtis), Anna’s mother, and she come to the conclusion that extreme measures are required.
Lohan and Curtis have long expressed their desire for a follow-up film. The two had been trying for years to get Freaky Friday 2 off the ground, and after twenty years, they were finally able to bring the idea into production.
After receiving the go-ahead for the project, Lohan recently talked about how filming on Disney properties made her feel like a child again.
Prior to any information regarding the sequel’s approval, Curtis shared a reunion picture of himself and Lohan for the movie’s 20th anniversary just a year ago. It’s evident that both actresses had fond memories of filming the original, having talked extensively about what it meant to them.
Lohan and Curtis must be in agreement with the rest of the cast, or else so many of them probably wouldn’t be coming back.
Disney has obviously given Freaky Friday 2 a lot of support because, in contrast to other delayed sequels like Hocus Pocus 2, the movie will be released in theaters and not only be available on Disney+. Fans should feel more optimistic about the movie’s ability to live up to its predecessor just based on this.
