Amidst her recent romance with Sophia Bush, Ashlyn Harris is thinking back on her protracted divorce with her ex-husband Ali Krieger.
In a recent interview with Women’s Health that was released on Wednesday, July 17, the 38-year-old former member of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) talked about “one of the hardest seasons” of her life.
Harris said to the site, “I’m navigating a divorce that’s been really hard.” “I’m just riding the waves as I become aware that the only thing I have control over is what I can control.” I have no control over how other people may react. I have no control over what other people think of me. I have to take responsibility for my body, myself, and my humanity.
Harris told the source that she is attempting to keep things regular for herself and Krieger’s two kids, son Ocean, 2, and daughter Sloane, 3. She said that her “storm doesn’t haven’t to be theirs.”
She went on, “Handling a divorce with two very young children and not letting them see or feel my storm and rain is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through. It’s a really significant test.
The couple got engaged in 2019 and married in the same year after they originally met in 2010 while competing for the USWNT. September 2023 saw Harris file for divorce from the two-time World Cup champion, while December of the same year saw Krieger apply for her own divorce.
Following her and Krieger’s breakup, Harris felt obliged to speak out about the hostility she was seeing online in November 2023.
Rumors of a romance between the 42-year-old Bush and the former model were rampant at the time, but both have insisted that they ended their previous partnerships before beginning a serious involvement. (Bush and ex-husband Grant Hughes called it quits after just over a year of marriage. After getting married in June 2022, the ex-couples parted ways in August 2023.)
Harris shared on Instagram, “The online hate I’ve faced recently has been one of the most personally crushing experiences of my life. Words have significance. The support for abuse, the people urging me to take my own life, and the harsh comments about my children and my role as a mother—these words truly matter.”
In April, Bush revealed her relationship with Harris after coming out as gay in a Glamour column.
“As soon as I entered my own skin, I knew this was home. She stated, “I believe I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum,” in the cover story of the publication. As of right now, I believe queer is the best word to describe it. Actually, I can’t say it without grinning. And it feels really good.
