The “Mortal Kombat” movie franchise is back in cinemas and on HBO Max with a revamp that hews closer to the ultraviolence of the video game series than the PG-13 films of the ’90s.
There is little doubt that Warner Bros. desires to produce more of these. Joe Taslim, who portrays Sub-Zero in the film, has reportedly committed to four additional “Mortal Kombat” installments.
the film is missing a significant portion of the tale — the actual Mortal Kombat tournament — which will likely be addressed in a future installment. Even though Johnny Cage is not present, the film ends with a hint of his impending appearance.
All of this points to the obvious conclusion that there will likely be more “Mortal Kombat” films in the future, as a franchise is being planned.
The question is whether there are any further hints after the credits that are worth staying for if you went to the cinema to watch the film. Does “Mortal Kombat” contain a scene during or after the end credits?
No, “Mortal Kombat” does not contain a mid-credits or post-credits scene. The only forward-looking tease at the end of the film is a poster of Johnny Cage in Cole’s (Lewis Tan) gym; beyond that, nothing but 11 minutes of credits follow.
No, there is no indication of what, if anything, Shao Kahn (Chin Han) intends to attempt prior to the tournament.
We have no idea what to expect from a potential sequel beyond Johnny Cage’s appearance. That’s definitely for the best, as it keeps the creative team’s options open. If they do return, though, we hope they do it with a bit more aesthetic flair.
