In the 1970 NFL Draft, Terry signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and started his professional football career. He defeated the Minnesota Vikings to win the inaugural Super Bowl Championship in 1974, two years later.
The Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys to win the Super Bowl in 1975 the next year. Nevertheless, he missed four games in 1976 due to a wrist ailment.
