Whoopi Goldberg slams Bill Maher for calling Covid-19 measures ‘bananas’: ‘How dare you be so flippant’

Bill Maher has been chastised by Whoopi Goldberg for referring to the Covid-19 measures as “bananas,” adding that “that’s not very humorous to folks who have lost their kids” as a result of the epidemic.

Following remarks he made on his programme Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night, the View host slammed the comedian on Monday’s instalment of the daytime talk show.

Mr Maher criticised measures to protect people from the virus, such as face masks and booster injections, in a monologue, and said that people live in a “paranoid environment.”

He added, “I don’t want to live in your paranoid world anymore — your veiled, paranoid world.”

“You go out; it’s pointless now.” You’ll need your mask, a card, and a booster, as well as other items. They look at you like you’re a cashier, and I’m a bunch of bananas.”

“I’m not bananas – you are,” Mr Maher remarked to the audience’s laughs.

Ms Goldberg couldn’t find the humour in the situation and called the comic “flippant.”

“How dare you be so careless, guy,” she said.

Nobody “wants to go through this,” the actor and TV personality said Mr Maher, but people are taking efforts “to safeguard our families.”

“That’s not very humorous to folks who have lost their children… or family members or personal friends to this,” she said.

“Listen, no one on the face of the globe wants to go through this.

“This isn’t something we’re doing for the sake of sexual pleasure.” This is what we’re doing to safeguard our loved ones.”

“And you don’t have to do it,” she said, “but stay away from everyone because if you’re the one who’s not paying attention and coughing and sneezing, dude, keep out of the public.”

“This is something that no one wants.” “I’m not interested.”

Ms Goldberg further said that children under the age of five are now unable to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

“And I believe he’s ignoring that there are still those who are in danger because they are unable to be vaccinated,” she said.

“Little children under the age of five, as well as those with health problems.”

“You’re playing Russian roulette with their life,” she continued.

Mr Maher has already caused debate by publicly criticising pandemic-related limitations.

The comedian slammed mindlessly obeying Dr Anthony Fauci’s and the medical community’s guidance in an interview with Deadline published on Friday.

He responded, “Don’t sit there in your white coat and tell me, ‘Just do what we say.'”

He stated he was “always afraid” of the virus’s response and “never scared” of the infection itself.

“And as events unfolded, it has only proven to be more true for me,” he remarked.

He assured his viewers in October that the epidemic was “gone” and that they could “resume life.”

“Just go back to life.” I understand that some people refuse to give up on the beautiful epidemic, but you know what? He said, “It’s over.”

He encouraged millennials to “enjoy [their] pre-corona existence” in June 2020, only months after the epidemic began, since they are “the least likely to die from it.”
