Who would win in a battle of Hulk vs. Juggernaut? This is the real conflict between an unstoppable force and an immovable object. Cain Marko’s supernatural powers, derived from the Gem of Cyttorak, clash with Bruce Banner’s gamma-powered strength.
They are undoubtedly two of the most formidable sluggers Earth-616 has to offer, yet their battle outcomes demonstrate that one behemoth is superior to the other.
In Roy Thomas, Tony Isabella, Steve Englehart, and Herb Trimpe’s The Incredible Hulk #172, the two giants first clashed. Juggernaut isn’t defeated even if Hulk took off his helmet during the subsequent battle.
The X-Men arrive and mentally incapacitate the charging brute just as an enraged and helmetless Juggernaut rises to charge at the Hulk, contesting this first battle between Marvel’s finest.
Even if the bigger picture prevented Hulk from permanently defeating Juggernaut, the actual fights demonstrate that Hulk has defeated him the most. What these comic book battles show about the real distinction between Juggernaut and the Hulk is more important than who would prevail or who turned out to be the stronger.
Hulk is Stronger Than Juggernaut, Yet He Still Can’t Defeat Him
Hulk has repeatedly shown that he may be the “strongest one there is” in the whole Marvel universe in terms of physical prowess. As previously stated, there isn’t a clear-cut winner in the first battle between Hulk and Juggernaut, which starts in Incredible Hulk #172.
However, only one man had something to prove in a rematch after Cain Marko was de-helmeted, humiliated, and dropped out of the fight, while Hulk emerged from the fight unscathed by Juggernaut. Juggernaut had no idea that the outcome would be as disappointing almost every time Hulk vanquished him in the future.
The Hulk denied his magic-enhanced opponent the honor of a total defeat by choosing to either throw Juggernaut hundreds of feet or leave him lying down and without a helm for someone else to handle. As he stops a charging Juggernaut, Hulk achieves significant milestones in both Incredible Hulk #457 and World War Hulk: X-Men #3.
This achievement demonstrates that, despite Juggernaut’s invincibility due to his magic, the Hulk possesses the enormous might to subvert Juggernaut’s supernatural laws. However, he is still unable to demolish him or coerce him into giving up, which is necessary for a real “win.”
Juggernaut Defeated the Hulk, but It Was Never a Fair Battle
Cain Marko’s ego was hurt and a desire for vengeance was ingrained after the first Hulk vs. Juggernaut title bout. Regretfully, the reader could no longer consider that initial combat to be fair. Each character has had to battle their own beast due to cosmic upgrades, locked and unlocked power levels, and both personas blurring the boundaries between hero and villain.
Juggernaut has demonstrated that he is capable of defeating the Hulk by using his own incredibly powerful punches and strikes to render him unconscious. However, there is a catch.
When Juggernaut and Hulk fought in The Incredible Hulk #402, Juggernaut defeated Hulk’s inferior “Professor Hulk” form, proving that Juggernaut is in fact stronger than Professor Hulk. However, he did so unexpectedly and in civilian attire, leaving the Hulk perplexed and reluctant to employ all of his strength against a non-super foe.
More recently, in Juggernaut #2 by Fabian Nicieza and Ron Garney, Cain Marko used a vicious uppercut to stop the green monster. However, the jade giant is actually on the verge of defeating Juggernaut as usual before Damage Control intervenes and makes the victory feasible by draining the Hulk’s power.
The final findings imply that, at least in terms of the beatings they can withstand, their power levels are almost equal. Hulk enjoys the edge usually granted to the heroes of Marvel’s reality because he has theoretically won more battles and his losses are limited.
But one thing is certain: neither Juggernaut nor the Hulk have ever been ‘beaten’ in the history of Hulk vs. Juggernaut.
