Who is Elsa’s Boyfriend in Frozen 3?

The Frozen franchise has not yet revealed Elsa’s sexual orientation, but according to one hypothesis, Frozen 3 may clarify that Elsa is gay by introducing her as a possible love partner.

The relationship between Elsa and Honeymaren, a member of the Northuldra tribe who was imprisoned in the Enchanted Forest by the curse, suggests that she might make a comeback for Frozen 3.

Because Elsa, a Disney princess, has personal aspirations beyond finding a prince, defies social expectations, and embarks on a journey of self-acceptance, the LGBTQ+ community has associated with her story arc since the first release of Frozen.

Disney hasn’t acknowledged that Elsa is lesbian, despite fans’ calls for the company to reveal Elsa’s sexual orientation since the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend started trending in 2016. Now that a third and fourth film have been confirmed, there will be more chances to examine this facet of the character.

Honeymaren might be introduced as Elsa’s romantic interest if Frozen 3 explores her new role as the fifth spirit, given that the two characters share a connection to nature. If Disney follows this path, it might also be a positive step for LGBTQ+ representation in the studio.

Why Honeymaren in Frozen 3 Would be Elsa’s Perfect Partner?

Honeymaren would be an excellent companion to narrate that love story if Elsa in Frozen 3 is queer. In contrast to other supporting characters in the Frozen series, Honeymaren is the first to seem to click with Elsa right away.

Bruni, Elsa, and Honeymaren sit by a campfire and talk about the significance of the needlework on Iduna’s scarf after Elsa tames the fire spirit. Honeymaren explains to Elsa the stories of a fifth elemental spirit, symbolized by the crystal in the middle of the snowflake, while pointing out that the four distinct crystal branches on the snowflake stand in for the four elements.

The two characters clearly connect during the brief encounter because of their shared Northuldra origin and love of nature, as evidenced by Honeymaren’s references to Ahtohallan and her singing of Iduna’s lullaby “All Is Found.”

Elsa’s immediate bond with Honeymaren may be the start of a romantic relationship because she has always struggled to let other people into her life because she is afraid of hurting someone with her elemental magic.

Since Elsa and Honeymaren both reside in the same area by the end of Frozen 2, the Enchanted Forest, it seems to reason that Frozen 3 would bring them together as a pair.

Elsa finds her calling as the go-between for the natural world and society after learning she is the fifth spirit. Elsa gives up the crown of Arendelle to dwell in the Enchanted Forest, where elemental spirits and natural magic flourish, realizing that she belongs with nature.

The North Huldra nation appreciates nature and the lessons of the spirits, therefore it is reasonable to believe that Honeymaren will remain with her people in the Enchanted Forest even after the curse is broken at the end of Frozen 2.

Since their first meeting resembles Anna and Kristoff’s early connection, it provides additional evidence that Elsa and Honeymaren could end up dating. Kristoff became Anna’s guide up the North Mountain when they first met.

When Honeymaren shares the myths surrounding the fifth spirit with Elsa, she also serves as her mentor, albeit unintentionally. In all situations, Anna and Elsa received priceless advice from their potential romantic partners.

In Frozen 3, Honeymaren’s understanding of nature, the elemental spirits, and North Huldra folklore may continue to benefit Elsa if she were to become her romantic interest.

Elsa’s Sexuality Doesn’t Justify Disney’s Troubled LGBTQ+ History

Who is Elsa's Boyfriend in Frozen 3

Even if it’s comforting to think about the potential for Disney to acknowledge Elsa’s sexual orientation and provide her with a romantic partner similar to Honeymaren in Frozen 3, this action alone wouldn’t constitute nearly enough advancement.

As with the company’s reactions to real-life concerns, Disney has a famously bad record when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation. Disney’s employees, for instance, strongly reacted negatively to the company’s first failure to publicly denounce Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill.

Disney’s dismal position on gay rights in the past cannot be justified by the fact that Frozen 3 gives a “yes” response to the question “Is Elsa going to be gay in Frozen 3?” and gives her a partner.

Similarly, Elsa’s connection with her girlfriend would need to be handled appropriately and established as a genuine, long-term partnership rather than a fleeting act of tokenism. Disney will be under pressure to make Elsa’s character story in Frozen 3 a success, given the studio’s previous failures with its most recent LGBTQ+ characters.

The LGBTQ+ characters in Frozen 3 Could Change Disney’s Future

With the introduction of the independent-minded commanding officer Alisha Hawthorne in the prequel movie Lightyear and the daring teen Ethan Clade in Strange World, Disney has fulfilled its pledge to increase representation of the LGBTQ+ community.

The issue, though, is that both of these movies had a difficult time at the box office, seriously undermining the successes of long-awaited visibility to the extent that viewers began to wonder if Lightyear’s failure would mean that Disney’s LGBTQ+ plans would be scrapped.

Fortunately, that didn’t happen, and Ethan became the latest Disney character to come out as openly gay. Although his character is significant, Strange World didn’t do well either.

However, Disney may have a chance to improve its current LGBTQ+ inclusion given the enormous popularity the Frozen brand has achieved. Outside of her sexuality, Elsa is a well-known character, and with two successful forays into the main plot, it’s almost a given that Frozen 3 will be a success as well.

Should studios finally address Elsa’s sexual orientation, she may become the first successful LGBTQ+ Disney character. The LGBTQ+ community deserves the type of exposure that Frozen 3 could provide.Wondering where Elsa’s narrative will go next?
