The main character of One Piece is Monkey D. Luffy, who appears in both manga and anime. His goal is to find Gol D. Roger’s One Piece treasure in order to become the new Pirate King. He is a very strong character.
Luffy has been on many adventures and accomplished a number of things over the years that have made him the hero he is today. While some of his acts are obvious, others—including some ardent series fans—remain a mystery.
Luffy ringing the (renowned) Ox Bell sixteen times in Marineford is one such instance, and we’ll explain why in this post.
As a diversion, Luffy rung the Ox Bell sixteen times. Since neither of these events occurred, we can conclude that the bell was rung as a kind of diversion and a signal to his Straw Hats Pirates, who are the only ones who truly understood the significance of the deed. Normally, the bell is rung to welcome the new year or in emergency situations.
We will go into more detail about our response in the remainder of this piece. We shall explain the significance of the Ox Bell in One Piece, including its exact meaning, when, how, and why Luffy rang it. We must caution you that there may be some spoilers if you are not completely current with all of Oda’s One Piece’s happenings.
The Ox Bell is a Crucial Symbol
The Ox Bell is a revered bell situated in Marineford’s main square. Originally, the bell was on board the renowned Battleship Ox Lloyd’s. Usually, it is done to signal the conclusion of one year and the start of a new one.
To express gratitude for the recently concluded year, you must ring the bell eight times. Then, you must do the same eight times to greet the new year. A major event, such as a catastrophe or the beginning of a new era, is indicated if it rings 16 times without interruption.
Luffy, still recuperating from his wounds, infiltrates Marineford after the Marineford War is concluded. Following custom, he approaches this bell and rings it sixteen times.
Different people have interpreted this signal differently. Killer of the Eustass Kid Pirates saw it as the beginning of a conflict, while Brandnew saw it as a declaration of war against the Navy. A new age of pirates. But Luffy’s true goal was to communicate with his friends, who were dispersed throughout the Grand Line by Bartholomew Kuma.
Luffy did this by revealing a new tattoo on his arm to a group of reporters who were taken aback by his appearance. This is a 3D2Y tattoo. The ellipsis of two years in the manga results from the companions, who were originally scheduled to meet three days after parting ways, delaying their rendezvous on the Sabaody archipelago to two years in order to give them time to practice diligently.
Luffy Chose a Strange Time to Ring the Bell
In Law’s submarine, Luffy is still receiving treatment. Law, Ivankov, Boa Hancock, and Jinbe discuss the degree of the harm he has sustained, and Jinbe worries about how he will react when he wakes up. Hancock also understands that Luffy has the support of the Impel Down inmates, who are Ivankov and his adherents from New Kama Land.
Luffy goes on a frenzy in Amazon Lily after two weeks of recuperating from his injuries, wondering heedlessly where Ace is. After gradually recalling Ace’s passing and carrying on destroying the forest’s trees and rocks, he pauses when Jinbe tries to clarify that Ace passed away and that the conflict was over.
Squeezing his cheek tightly, Luffy understands it was not a dream and starts crying over his loss. As he sobbed, he began to remember the moment he met Ace. Following the flashback, he starts to question his skills and considers how, if he is too weak, he might become the pirate king.
Luffy then gets into a verbal and physical altercation with Jinbe, who tells him that he hasn’t lost everything yet and that he shouldn’t feel bad about his brother’s passing.
Luffy then says he wants to visit the Sabaody Archipelago to reunite with his crew after realizing that he still has something precious: his crew. He discovers Shakky’s ties with Nyon, Boa Hancock, and her sisters when he encounters Silvers Rayleigh at Amazon Lily shortly after.
Rayleigh responds that it is unlikely that any of his crew members have returned to the Sabaody Archipelago when Luffy inquires about this.
Following her explanation of how she learned that Luffy was on Amazon Lily, Rayleigh goes on to say that the same terrible things that happened to her would occur again if Luffy went back to Sabaody. Rayleigh then makes a suggestion to Luffy, which he starts to hear.
Days later, a report about Luffy’s survival traveled around the globe, despite the fact that the solution was still unknown. But something about Luffy’s behavior is still present in the papers.
According to the story, Luffy did, in fact, sneak into Marineford a second time with Jinbe and Rayleigh. The Lieutenant Commander claims that traveling around an island is a memorial service for the departed, and it is demonstrated that they once surrounded Marineford after robbing a navy ship.
After entering the square and ringing the Ox Bell sixteen times and throwing a bunch of flowers into the debris, Luffy bowed his head in solemn prayer and left Marineford right away.
The Straw Hat Pirates are aware of the secret significance of Luffy’s deeds, but many other pirates, even Supernovas, conjectured about what it might signify. The only one who took a while to figure it out was Zoro, who thought Luffy wouldn’t do such a thing.
After a little while, Zoro decodes the message and explains its meaning to Perona. He shows her that Luffy has a tattoo on his right arm that reads “3D2Y,” with the “3D” crossed out. This indicates that their meeting will not take place for three days as planned; if it does, it will take place in two years.
Later, Luffy can be seen recuperating from his wounds on the ship of the Kuja Pirates. Standing beside him, the other Kuja pirates observe him while Hancock commands them to play with his elastic skin.
Luffy continues by expressing his hope that his message will be understood by his fellow crew members. Then Rayleigh told her that she would, which was really unusual for him. After Luffy and Jinbe thank the others, Jinbe eventually departs the Kuja’s ship and is taken aboard a whale shark.
Jinbe promises Luffy that he would continue to assist him in the future and that he is excited to see him and his crew in two years. After a while, Luffy and the Kuja arrive on Rusukaina, a desert island northwest of Amazon Lily Island, where Rayleigh is the only one who has trained Luffy.
Rayleigh uses a big elephant to illustrate Kenbunshoku, Busoshoku, and Haoshoku while explaining the three types of haki simultaneously. Luffy, who looks up to Rayleigh and is keen to learn Haki, is excited by this presentation.
Then, using the Vivre Card, Luffy places his hat on a stone—the only secure spot on the perilous island—while declaring that he will take a two-year break from being a pirate.
