Not James Corden and his omelet wife (why was James Corden there? ), not Jared Leto and his fuzzy suit (simply why), but the notoriously private Anna Wintour and Bill Nighy, were the most shocking celebrity couple to stroll the dirty beige carpet at yesterday night’s Met Gala.
Multiple tabloids, including the New York Post, Just Jared, and E! News, have reported that they are a couple solely on the basis of Nighy’s presence at the event; Wintour rarely arrives at public events with a companion, with the exception of her daughter. Friends of the Vogue editor-in-chief who remained anonymous told the Post they were “thrilled” that she “finally” came out about dating the Love Actually actor.
Finally! Finally?? Keep in mind that words alone have not confirmed anything, and one side is urging the other to cool down. Immediately following the gala, a representative for Nighy told The Independent, “Bill and Anna have simply been great friends for two decades.” There is no romantic connection between them.
Still, the paparazzi spotting them on a supposed date in Rome started a rumor mill that hasn’t stopped turning in the years since. The Daily Mail claimed in August 2021 that Nighy had purchased roses for Wintour as a “loving gesture,” and that the couple appeared “the picture of happiness as they gazed longingly at each other” across the table at Pierluigi.
To be perfectly honest, I’m not feeling any “longing” from the about 137 images of the supper published by the Mail, despite the fact that they did appear to touch at least once and to enjoy one another’s company.

Wintour and Nighy had known each other for quite some time, having been spotted sitting together at London Fashion Week in 2010 when Wintour was with financier Shelby Bryan, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter (which is also labeling this a “relationship”).
Nighy and his ex-wife Diana Quick divorced in 2008 after more than two decades of marriage, and Wintour and Bryan split up around 2020. However, in 2018, concerns were raised about the depth of the friendship between Nighy and Wintour. Apparently, Nighy said, “Obviously I have nothing to say about that,” as reported by Just Jared. After Wintour attended a December screening of Nighy’s film Living in Manhattan and put on a “cozy display,” as the Mail put it, rumors about her and Nighy began to spread. (Both Wintour and Nighy were sides by side.) Everyone knows that a quick kiss between two celebrities will put an end to the rumor mill over whether or not they are dating. Chopping, chopping!
