Tristan Thompson wrote a heartfelt ode to his late mother Andrea Thompson, in which he discussed his shortcomings and his aspirations for the future.
To my Heavenly Mother: The month that you’ve been gone has passed. That is beyond my wildest imagination. The 31-year-old NBA player opened his heartbreaking Instagram post on February 5 with the words, “I’m in the darkest portion of sadness and anguish.”
My heart is broken because my superhero and greatest source of strength are no longer in my life. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you being a lady of faith and one of God’s fighters who has always been ready to face the challenges that life has thrown at us.
You prayed for us continually, and God answered those prayers. My hero, you’ve done your duty, and it’s time for you to retire.
Tristan, the eldest of Andrea’s four sons, expressed his gratitude by reminiscing about how she “committed [her] life to [her] boys & the church” and thanking her for “choosing me as [her] son.” She was the “strongest woman I know,” his “best friend,” and his “role model.”
The former Chicago Bulls star wrote a heartfelt letter of apology to Andrea, detailing all the ways in which he had let her down during his life.
(Though Tristan did not specify, he has frequently made news for his recurrent adultery, including fathering son Theo, now 14 months old, with Maralee Nichols while he was still in a relationship with Khloé Kardashian, with whom he shares daughter True, 4, and a baby boy, now 7 months old. As a result of his relationship with ex-girlfriend Jordan Craig, he is also the father of 6-year-old Prince.
For all I’ve done wrong in life, all I can say is, ‘I’m sorry, mommy. I am sorry that this has caused you shame and hurt. Canada’s native writer thanked his parents for giving him a better start in life than he could have given them.
But I’ve realized that saying sorry isn’t good enough. It’s true that actions speak louder than words. Therefore, I won’t merely apologize.
Be on the lookout for the ways in which I’ll demonstrate what a wonderful son you raised to the world. When I fail, you will see that it is possible to get yourself up and try again.
I find inspiration in you. Join me as I strive to become the man in whom you have always had faith. I’ll do my best to make you happy with me.
In addition, Tristan assured Andrea that his youngest brother, who suffers from epilepsy, “is going to be taken care of.”

The basketball star pledged his allegiance to Amari, his 16-year-old brother, writing, “I’ll defend him, love him, and do whatever in the world to make sure he’s well.”
Khloé, who paid tribute to Andrea earlier this month after attending her burial with sister Kim Kardashian, is echoed by Tristan’s sentiments on his youngest sibling.
I know you never wanted to leave your guys,” the Good American cofounder said to another woman, 38 at the time, on Instagram.
You can’t imagine life without them. Because they are warriors like their warrior mommy, they will find a way to heal the void in their hearts. You may rest assured that Amari is going to be OK. We’ll take care of him, assist him, and defend him. They have a guardian Angel looking out for them, so don’t worry about your lads.
TMZ reports that Andrea had a heart attack on January 5 at her home in Toronto.
