An American actress, Christina Applegate was born on November 25, 1971. It was her role as Kelly Bundy on the Fox sitcom Married… with Children that brought her fame as a child actress (1987–1997). The adult Applegate went on to have a fruitful career in cinema and television, garnering nominations for four Golden Globes and a Tony Award in addition to her Primetime Emmy triumph (one of seven total).

Career

Applegate’s performance as the titular character in the NBC sitcom Jesse (1998-2000) was nominated for a Golden Globe. For her appearance on the Friends episode of the NBC sitcom, she was awarded a Primetime Emmy (2002–2003). They considered her for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in the 2005 Broadway revival of Sweet Charity.

She then went on to star in the ABC sitcom Samantha Who? (2007-2009), for which she received two Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations, the NBC sitcom Up All Night (2011-2012), and the Netflix dark tragicomedy series Dead to Me (2019-2022), for which she received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award nomination.

Personal Life

Actor Johnathon Schaech became Applegate’s husband on October 20, 2001, in Palm Springs, California. With irreconcilable differences as the reason, Schaech filed for divorce in December 2005; the divorce was finalized in August 2007. She started seeing Dutch musician Martyn LeNoble in 2009.

A Valentine’s Day 2010 proposal led to a February 23, 2013 wedding in the couple’s Los Angeles home. The couple had both been married before. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in January 2011. Vegetarian Applegate starred in a 2007 PETA ad condemning the use of fur in clothing.

Philanthropy

Applegate has contributed to the Motion Picture and Television Fund Foundation, the World Animal Protection, the Entertainment Industry Foundation, Adopt-A-Classroom, and the Trevor Project, among others. The Lee National Denim Day campaign, which has raised millions of dollars for breast cancer education and research, hired her as its spokesperson in 2003. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she took part in a television program called Stand Up to Cancer. On September 5, 2008, CBS, NBC, and ABC all aired one-hour specials on the topic.

Applegate declared her intention to serve as the Lee National Denim Day ambassador once again in 2009. In 2009, she also established Right Action for Women, a charity that promotes MRI screenings for breast cancer and is named after the procedure that ultimately saved her life.
