Snowpiercer Season 3: Release Date, Cast & More Updates in 2022!

Snowpiercer, TNT’s TV series based on Bong Joon-dystopian ho’s sci-fi thriller film of the same name (as well as the ’80s graphic novel Le Transperceneige on which the film was based), will conclude its second season on Monday, March 29 at 9/8c on TNT, with the first half currently available to stream on TNT’s app.

The film’s denouement pits deposed revolutionary leader Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) against Snowpiercer founder Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean), who has taken control of the never-stopping train that delivers humanity’s survival after a horrific calamity. Wilford has relegated Layton to the “Big Alice” supply train and is reviewing his options for the other crucial Snowpiercer passengers. To paraphrase Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead, “Snowpiercer is no longer a democracy.”

Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly), who is off the train looking for scientific evidence that the earth is becoming habitable again and may return to the train in the finale, is a ray of hope for Layton and the revolution.

Snowpiercer Season 3 has a release date.

According to Variety, Snowpiercer was renewed for a third season in January, before the second had even begun. It was welcome news for a show that had traveled a long way to reach the screen. Josh Friedman, the original showrunner, was sacked after the pilot was shot in early 2018, and director Scott Derrickson did not return for reshoots due to creative differences with the network. Thus, a new pilot was shot, written by new showrunner Graeme Manson and directed by James Hawes, postponing the series’ premiere by a year. It finally premiered in May 2020.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Season 2 received an 85% “Fresh” rating, compared to 63 percent for Season 1. The program appears to have figured out what works in season three.

Snowpiercer’s schedule for the prior two seasons was all over the place, so predicting when season 3 will premiere is tricky. Following a lengthy pilot process, Season 2 launched on January 25, 2021, just six months after Season 1 ended. Season 3 will most likely premiere next year around the same time as season 2. According to cable television production schedules, Snowpiercer will return in the winter of 2022. It is, after all, a holiday special.

Casting for Snowpiercer 3

A few characters from Season 2 return in Season 3. Jennifer Connelly, one of the show’s stars, will return despite her character Melanie appearing to have been killed off at the end of the second season.

In a recent TVLine interview, executive producer Becky Clements gave conflicting answers when asked about Melanie’s whereabouts, claiming, “I don’t know if she is alive,” but also admitting, “we are pleased that Jennifer will join us for season 3.” So, from now on, she’ll only appear in flashbacks?

The Storyline of Snowpiercer Season 3

Executive producer Becky Clements gave some suggestions about what to expect in season two before the show debuted.

When asked about the plot, Clements replied, “It won’t be like a train chase.” “Even if some chasing occurs, it will not last the entire season.” It’s fantastic that so many stories are being recounted right now. There’s also [what happened to] Melanie, the training study, and…”

Clements said in a separate interview with Deadline that the second season will feature all of the characters “trying to find their place in their new world,” and that there will be a time jump to show “what the new global order looks like.”

“Having new allies and opponents in season 3 is a lot of fun,” she continued. It’s been amazing to watch the interactions that have occurred as the scene has brought new people together.”
According to her, Josie (Katie McGuinness) and her powers, which were hinted at in season 2, will get more screen time!

“That’s sort of our amazing, enticing, sci-fi genre part” when it comes to human augmentation, she said. “In the realm of CRISPR, who knows how far we can and should go?” You know what happens when we start tampering with the creator, right? So, yes. There’s also some interesting stuff on the way!”

Archie Panjabi, well known for his appearances in The Fall and The Good Wife, will join the cast as Asha, a trained survivor, and Clements has promised that “a few of the lesser characters” will appear in the show. We’ll let you know when we have more information.
