Early Life

Rainn Dietrich Wilson was born in Seattle, Washington, on January 20, 1966. Shay Cooper, a yoga instructor, and actor, was his mother, and Robert G. Wilson, an artist, and novelist best known for the science-fiction novel Tentacles of Dawn was his father. Wilson spent his childhood in Nicaragua for a few years before returning to Washington to attend middle and high school. However, his family relocated to Illinois before he graduated, and Rainn attended New Trier High School.

He subsequently enrolled at the University of Washington in Seattle, majoring in drama and graduating in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree. Then he went to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program, where he earned an MFA in acting and joined The Acting Company. Wilson acted onstage in various productions across the country for the next many years before breaking into movies and television.

Career 

Wilson made his debut appearance on film in 1997, in an episode of the popular soap series One Life to Live. He landed a supporting part on the television series The Expendables two years later (not to be confused with the Sylvester Stallone action franchise by that name). In the same year, he made his feature film debut in Galaxy Quest, a sci-fi comedy, and in 2000, he appeared in Cameron Crowe’s autobiographical Almost Famous. Then, in 2002, he landed his first main part in Rob Zombie’s debut horror picture House of 1000 Corpses, as one of the multiple leads.
